Gentlemen’s Honor

Written on the eve of Obama's inauguration in 2009...published here to demonstrate how far we haven't traveled...
The nature of his administration was evident
as he introduced his transition team and potential members of his cabinet.
The individuals selected are fixtures of the economic aristocracy
and the Washington Consensus establishment.
His Transitional Economic Advisory Board ...
Poems of Conscience (for a time that needs it)

The Tao of Conscience
Right...
or wrong.
Too much or too little.
Too near or too far.
The Gift
is decision.
The ability to choose,
come to one's own conclusions,
rather than unthinking obeisance
to authoritarian institutions.
An intrinsic ethics
structured deep into the mind
reveals the direction
in which integrity lies.
Danger follows sheep
who refuse responsibility
for action,
and wolves who see god
in their own satisfaction.
Other ...

Of course without mentioning

Black Pearls

"Black Pearls" is my ode to being tired of being poisoned. You just can't escape that tainted scent of profit in the air, the water and the food. Asking people if they know they're being poisoned is like asking if a fish knows the water is wet. Corporations are, in effect, allowed ...
Feigned indignation
is the only kind left
where decency is a threat
to the raison d'etre of profit,
an impediment,
bred out of the masses as much as possible.
And a well-established lust for flesh
plus professional perception management
will make cannibalism as acceptable
as neoconservativism,
especially when the product is processed.
The objection it's actually humans will be subject
to a ...
The indocrination of children into the culture of corporate capitalism begins even before they enter school, when their own parents, in effect, bind the feet of their morality by having them join in the guilty and tasty pleasures of murder.
The ABCs of Atrocity
sow the seeds of future perversity.
Animals are the means we ...
Worship of Eostre
Poetry throws a
seductive cloak
over me as I drive,
nearly forcing me
to the side of the road
to describe
cloud canoes purple
as a bruise, rowing
through gift tissue
mist hovering over
a virgin birch
seduced by the scent
of raw, thawing earth
into donning her bridal
veil and peignoir edged
with peeping, limey leaflings
the words of birds
warbling a wedding march
as ...
I don’t want this responsibility*

Causes and effects.
Some of the terrible things that are happening in the world
are long-term effects of things that happened decades, or centuries, ago.
The way in which an act of terrorism against innocents in New York City
is tied, configurally, historically, to events of 1649, 1953, or 1876
can't be reduced to comfortable ...
Go!
Get out
into the greening.
See
life happening.
Get hip
to the meaning
of the resurrection
metaphor for Mother Earth
in the act of returning
what each autumn we mourn
and is now being reborn
with the first heady scent
of royal purple hyacinth,
a cyclical reminder
that heaven is Earth
and we are walking
on the body
of god.
